Free-Time Follies

 Don't get real free-time often - there's usually commissions to work on, or chores to do - and when I do, I waste time figuring out how to spend it. The vicious cycle!!

Today, I have free time! And a long weekend! Gonna list all of my fun to-dos so I can just pick & go.

& some holiday plans (surprising my dad with movie tickets, finishing some presents, spending Christmas day painting with the family!) Semi-related note ... got myself a present. Utena's Black Rose boxset. It arrived early. It's sitting under the tree, mocking me. I'm not good with waiting lol.

how have you been enjoying she-ra so far? i see a lot of people talking about it, but haven't tried it yet myself!

Utena's last arc goes intense - that's all I'll say ;) (I haven't watched the movie, yet, myself.)

I didn't want to get my hopes up for She-ra but ... I love it!! I'd say the first episode (2 parts?) is good enough to judge if you'll like the series or not. It's a fun, adventure-of-the-week kind of show. Lovely colors, nice script beats, so many interesting characters.

It also goes harder with the surrealism, so heads-up. I'm a fan of it, but some people like it's earlier balance of real/surreal.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) that sounds veeeeery good. i liked the first arc for its subjects and themes, and then fell a bit out of it because of the second arc's pacing. kinda sad that they had to wrap up everything in one episode because there were a lot of storys i really enjoyed

;))))) well, hope you enjoy the Apocalypse Saga - such an awesome name lol. Black Rose Saga definitely has it's flaws (especially pacing, oof) but I'm such a sucker for the imagery / mystery of that arc.

yeah me too! i really liked this…… can i even call it a psychological thriller? part of utena, especially with ikuhara's visual language. i really appreciate creator's who can leave details up for interpretation

The boxset calls Utena a "psychological roller coaster" - but it's hard to pin down one genre for it, huh? Magical girl, psych thriller, surreal action?? All good :'D

Really inspired by that level of visuals & mysteries!!
